Connecticut shade tobacco is a tobacco historically grown under shade in the Connecticut River valley of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and southern Vermont. It is used primarily for binder and wrapper for premium cigars, and is prized for its color and quality, its subtle sweetness and elegant, refined flavor.

Connecticut shade tobacco leaves are highly prized by fine cigar makers, and are used as the cigar’s outer wrapping. Connecticut shade tobacco  is very silky, very fine, and one of the best tasting and looking wrappers available, according to a 1992 Cigar Aficionado article on why many of the world’s best cigars use Connecticut tobacco wrapper leaves.

Connecticut Shade tobacco can reach eight feet in height with leaves that are light green colored averaging a foot wide by eighteen inches long. When shade grown, the leaves are finer, larger, and more elastic than if they are grown in the full sun producing some of the finest cigar wrappers.

‘Connecticut Shade’ was historically grown under trees and used as cigar binder tobacco, as well as for cigar wrappers and filler.

Aged, aromatic leaf is rolled as the outer part of mild- and medium-bodied cigars that burn slow and even and offer a smooth, creamy smoke. Great for blunt wraps 🙂
